ndustry analysts also say Google’s sudden change of plans reflects a weakness in the company’s business culture around managing relationships with partners.

“Google as a company is not a particularly partner-friendly or partner-focused company,” said James L. McQuivey, an analyst at Forrester, who added that because of the delay, it might take another year before Google TV has a chance to catch fire.

t is hard to believe something as ‘techy’ as HTML5 would find itself as a headline in major consumer publications, but thanks to a little open letter from Steve Jobs to world, HTML5 soon became a word everyone was talking about. In that letter, Jobs argued several key points on why his popular iPhone and iPad devices would not be supporting the de facto standard for video, Adobe Flash, going do far as to say “We don’t spend a lot of energy on old technology” and reportedly telling Wall Street Journal staff that Flash was a “CPU hog” and a source of “security holes.”

When Jobs speaks people listen, and as a result HTML5 saw a huge boost in adoption rates in 2010. Web cataloging service MeFeedia reported in October that 54% of online video in now available in HTML5 format. Are you thinking “that’s not that impressive, 54% is barely more than half”? Then let’s look at the most amazing part about this statistic. In January of 2010 the percentage of online video that was available in HTML5 was just 10%. That means the percentage of online video available in HTML5 format grew 5X in just 9 months. Can you think of another technology standard that is showing those kinds of rapid adoption rates? I can’t.

The amount  greatly expands the $2.3 billion sum that  Mr. Picard had already collected through asset sales and other settlements in the Madoff bankruptcy.  The figure represents the difference between the cash that Mr. Picower put into his Madoff account and the amount that he withdrew over the life of the fraud, according to litigation filed last year by Mr. Picard.

Mr. Bharara said the settlement constituted the largest single forfeiture in American judicial history.

Calling the Madoff scheme “deplorable,” Mrs. Picower said in her statement that she was confident that her husband had not been involved but that returning the gains was the right thing to do.

“I believe that this settlement honors what Jeffry would have wanted, which is to return this money so that it can go directly to the victims of Madoff,” she said, adding that she planned to return to “the philanthropic work that was so important to Jeffry and me.”

New Direct Post 3

ederal prosecutors and the trustee charged with recovering assets in the Bernard L. Madoff bankruptcy announced settlements Friday that would add $7.2 billion to the cash available to compensate victims of Mr. Madoff’s global Ponzi scheme.

Details of the agreements with the estate of Jeffry M. Picower, a Palm Beach philanthropist who died in October 2009, were released in court documents and at a news conference in Lower Manhattan.

The settlements “will return every penny received from almost 35 years of investing with Bernard Madoff,” Mr. Picower’s wife, Barbara, said in a statement released through her lawyer, William D. Zabel of Schulte Roth & Zabel.

The Picower estate will pay $5 billion to the trustee, Irving H. Picard, and $2.2 billion to a federal victims fund to resolve a lawsuit filed last year, according to statements from Mr. Picard and United States attorney for the Southern District, Preet Bharara.

Eizo announces more detail on glasses-free 3D DuraVision LCD, releases more pics of this BBW
You admired its bezels two weeks ago when Eizo released the first details to the world, now wonder at its full specs and more details. The company has released a spec sheet confirming the 1920 x 1080 resolution and 23-inch size, also detailing how it works. The monitor uses a directional backlight and a time lag to effectively hit each eye individually through the same pixel, enabling that high resolution in a small panel but still delivering glasses-free performance. Eizo pledges no moiré, color distortion, or other issues typically seen in glasses-free displays, but this tech will surely not come cheap when it ships in the second quarter of 2011. How do we know? Anticipated applications for the FDF2301-3D include scanning electron microscopes and semiconductor inspections -- playing Killzone 3 is sadly not listed.

Eizo announces more detail on glasses-free 3D DuraVision LCD, releases more pics of this BBW originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 13 Dec 2010 10:33:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
